Reproduction of petunias

Reproduction of petunias

1. Breeding Methods

1. Propagation by seeds. The time is generally chosen in June, July and October to November, when the climatic conditions are more suitable. The temperature is best at 20 degrees. Prepare the soil first by mixing soil rich in rotten leaves with sandy soil and disinfecting it. Wet with water. After sowing the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of soil and press them lightly. Wait for about twenty days and then sprouts will appear.

2. Propagation by cuttings. May, June, August and September are more suitable. This is the growing season for petunias, and the temperature is relatively suitable, so the probability of survival is high. Disinfect the soil in the pot and wet it thoroughly with water without any stagnant water. Cut off a healthy branch about ten centimeters long, preferably with three small leaves, and then stick it into the soil. Don't insert it too deep, one to two centimeters is enough. Place it in a cool and well-ventilated place. It will grow roots in about fifteen days and can be moved out for planting in about a month.

2. Precautions

1. The young seedlings after breeding have poor ability to resist the cold. Be careful not to keep the temperature too low. About 27 degrees is best, and it should not be lower than 15 degrees at night.

2. The soil should be loose and breathable, otherwise it will reduce the probability of survival.

3. As petunias continue to grow, they need to be transplanted and moved to a larger pot when they reach a certain size. Moving the flowers and soil together will help them survive. Moreover, it must be planted more than two months before the flowering period, otherwise it will affect flowering.
