High-yield cultivation techniques of broccoli

High-yield cultivation techniques of broccoli

Broccoli is also known as loose-flower broccoli and green-stemmed cauliflower. Compared with general compact cauliflower, broccoli is more resistant to cooking and tastes delicious. It also has the advantages of strong heat resistance and wider adaptability, and its planting prospects are very broad. So how can we grow broccoli to achieve high yield? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Variety selection

Choose broccoli varieties with strong adaptability, good disease resistance and excellent quality, such as Jisong 70, Ousong 105 days, Kesong 108 days, etc.

2. Site selection and land preparation

Choose sandy loam or loam with deep soil, good drainage and rich in organic matter. Avoid continuous cropping and it is best to implement a crop rotation system to reduce the accumulation of pests and diseases. In autumn, the soil is deep plowed, deep ploughed and harrowed to make deep furrows and high ridges. The ridge width is 0.8m and the furrow width is 0.4m. Two rows are planted on each ridge with a plant spacing of 50cm. 3-5 cubic meters of decomposed organic fertilizer , 50kg of compound fertilizer , 10kg of urea and 0.5kg of borax are applied per mu.

3. Planting time

It is generally best to plant broccoli in spring and autumn. Spring planting can generally be done between February and March each year, while autumn planting is usually between August and September each year.

4. Sowing and seedling raising

It is recommended to choose the plug tray seedling method for seedling cultivation. After sowing, remember to use a shade net to protect the seedlings. Before the seedlings emerge, take all-day shading measures on sunny days. At the same time, spray clean water once in the morning and check once at noon. If water shortage is found, spray again in time.

5. Planting at the right time

When the seedlings grow to 4-5 leaves, they are transplanted, with row spacing of 50-60cm and plant spacing of 40-50cm. The planting density is controlled at 2000-2500 plants per mu.

6. Field management

After planting, reasonable water and fertilizer management should be carried out to ensure the supply of nutrients required for plant growth. In addition, during the flower head formation period, you should fold the leaves to protect the flowers to prevent the flower head from turning yellow due to direct sunlight.

7. Harvesting points

Generally, broccoli can be harvested about 15-20 days after it forms a head. When harvesting, 3-5 leaves can be retained to protect the flower balls and avoid mechanical damage or contamination during storage and transportation. After harvesting, it should be sold as soon as possible or placed in a cold storage at around 4°C for pre-cooling and preservation.

In general, the high-yield cultivation technology of broccoli involves many aspects, including variety selection, seedling cultivation, planting and so on. Through these scientific and reasonable cultivation and management, broccoli can not only achieve high yields, but also effectively improve the planting benefits.
