How Clematis Spends the Summer

How Clematis Spends the Summer

1. Category I

One type includes the long-petaled bluebird. Cecil, etc., evergreen varieties such as Silver Coin and Apple Blossom. They will continue to grow in the summer, so we can manage them normally, but to prevent diseases, it is best to spray them with medicine once every half a month. In addition, long-petal varieties should not be exposed to rain. As long as new branches grow, they will bloom until autumn. Evergreen varieties only produce branches. And don't forget to water it.

2. Category II Varieties

This type of variety is an early flowering variety, such as Pink Champagne, Ice Beauty, etc. They will bloom in early spring. After the flowers fade, you can cut off the remaining flowers or prune the branches that have not bloomed. Then a month later it will grow new buds, and if they develop well, they will bloom again. Older leaves will turn brown. By May, the temperature will gradually rise, and June is the rainy season. If the medium is not air permeable, the branches will easily suffer from wilt disease.

3. Three types of varieties

This is a late-flowering variety, such as Ziyun, Duran, etc. After the first batch of flowers have bloomed, you can cut off all the nodes that have bloomed. Then wait about a month and it will grow new branches and bloom again.

4. Dormant Varieties

For this variety, you need to wait until the flowers fade and then cut off the remaining flowers, leaving only the branches and leaves, so that the water can evaporate faster, greatly reducing the occurrence of wilt. It’s okay even if it rains at this time, but you must not apply fertilizer. During the dormant period, its leaves will turn black. After the dormant period, you can cut the branches short and then cut off the dead leaves. But it is best to prune at the end of August, because dormancy is almost over at this time and it is growing branches and flowering.
