When to repot the fiddle-leaf fig

When to repot the fiddle-leaf fig

1. Time

Repotting does not need to be done every year. Generally, we do it once every two or three years. This operation needs to be carried out in the spring. Only at this time is it suitable for its growth and repotting will be more successful.

2. Soil

When repotting, you need to consider the soil it needs. It prefers loose soil and also needs good drainage. Generally speaking, peat soil or some acidic soil are feasible. In addition, we'd better give it a mixture of leaf mold or culture soil and coarse sand, etc. It would be even better if some basic fertilizer could be added.

3. Flower Pots

You can't just choose the flowerpot randomly. Generally speaking, we must first determine its size. It can't be too big, otherwise it will have a bad effect on it. If the plant itself is relatively small, we choose a diameter between twenty and twenty-five centimeters. If it is larger, we should choose one around thirty to thirty-five centimeters. In addition, the bottom of the flower pot needs to be perforated so that drainage can be better and the leaves will not discolor due to water accumulation.

4. Pruning

This operation is done before repotting. If the leaves turn yellow or we want to give it a more unique shape, we can trim them. Of course, some of its useless roots can also be cut off.

5. Watering

We should also note that it prefers a humid environment, so we need to water it thoroughly and let it dry out when watering. If the temperature is relatively low, don't water it too much, otherwise it is likely to die. Of course, you should water it more in spring and summer because it is in a growth state at this time and the water is lost relatively quickly, so it is better to ensure its normal growth.
