How to prune Epiphyllum? Pruning time and method diagram

Epiphyllum pruning time

Epiphyllum needs to be pruned twice a year, the first period is during its growing season, and the second period is after its flowering period ends. If diseased or insect-infested branches are seen, they need to be pruned at any time to maintain the beauty of the plant shape.

How to prune Epiphyllum

1. Preparation

Before pruning the Epiphyllum, you need to make appropriate preparations. You should not water or fertilize the plant one week before pruning it, otherwise it will affect the normal growth of the plant. In addition, the knife needs to be disinfected before pruning to effectively avoid infection of the wound.

2. Pinching

During the growth period of Epiphyllum, it is necessary to pinch the top of the plant, so as to control the height of the plant. After pinching off the tender leaves on the top, the apical dominance is removed, the branches will grow stronger, and many side buds can be grown.

3. Prune branches and leaves

If the branches and leaves of Epiphyllum are underdeveloped or grow too tall during the flowering period, they should be pruned in time, and the withered flowers should be pruned after the flowering period. In addition, if pests and diseases occur, the diseased branches and leaves need to be cleaned up in time to reduce the loss of nutrients in the plant and ensure better growth of the plant.

4. Post-cutting processing

After pruning the Epiphyllum, in order to avoid infection of the wound, it is necessary to disinfect the wound. Just apply wood ash on the wound. If the plant is suffering from diseases and insect pests, then spray the corresponding medicine for prevention and control.
