What soil is best for azaleas?

1. Specific requirements

Looseness and good ventilation: These two aspects are similar. If they meet the requirements, the breathing of the plant will not be too hindered, which can promote its rapid growth.

Rich in humus: This is in terms of the amount of nutrition. More nutrients will provide sufficient supply for its growth and then for its flowering. Moreover, the benefits are not limited to this one aspect. On the other hand, it can also improve the structure of the soil, making it more water- and fertilizer-retaining.

Slightly acidic: In terms of pH, we should choose acidic soil. If the soil you choose is alkaline, the leaves of the plant will turn yellow and may even die. However, it does not need to be too acidic, a slightly acidic pH value of 5.5 to 6.5 is enough.

2. What kind of soil should be used?

Generally speaking, leaf mold is better. First of all, it is a typical acidic soil. In addition, it can basically meet the above requirements. Among all leaf molds, pine leaf humus has the best effect. We can dig it from under the pine trees in the woods, or we can take it from the courtyard where there are many pine and cypress trees. Of course, there is more than one method available. There are many other soils available, such as nutrient soil from flower shops, pond mud, etc.

3. Notes

① You should avoid choosing soils that are particularly sticky, such as red soil. This type of soil is not suitable for plant growth.

②In order to ensure the subsequent nutrient supply, you can add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to the soil.

③If the water permeability is not very good, you can add some coal slag.
