The Flower Language of Begonia

The flower language of Begonia is bitter love.

Behind the language of flowers, there is a lingering love story. The protagonists of the story are Lu You, a famous poet in the Song Dynasty, and his beloved woman Tang Wan. According to historical records, when Lu You and Tang Wan were parting, Tang Wan gave Lu You a pot of begonia to express her longing for him. Lu You asked Tang Wan: "What kind of flower is this?" Tang Wan replied sadly: "This is the heartbreak red." Upon hearing this, Lu You was filled with thoughts and said casually: "This flower should be called acacia red." Since then, begonia has also been called the heartbreak flower and acacia grass, which means bitter love.

When people are frustrated in love, they often use begonia flowers to metaphorically describe themselves, calling it the heartbreak flower, using this flower to express the deep sadness when men and women part.

The legend behind Begonia

According to legend, a long time ago, there was an ancient town on the distant coast of the East China Sea. It was a water trade port with a constant flow of merchants, and it was bustling with people. Every household in the town likes to grow flowers. There was a young man in the town named Guitang. He had a mother, wife and children at home. They made a living by growing and selling flowers and lived a very hard life.

In addition to helping Guitang grow flowers, Mrs. Guitang also has a good skill - cutting patterns. She can cut out any flower she sees, and her cutting is lifelike and looks exactly like the flower. Neighbors all praise her good craftsmanship.

One day, Madam Guitang was selling the patterns she had cut herself on the street when a merchant from out of town said to her, "Sister-in-law, the patterns you cut are good, but it would be even better if you could make paper or silk flowers. I can give you a good price!" Madam Guitang was very moved by the merchant's words, so she agreed. She went home and started making a basket of various paper and silk flowers. The merchant was very happy when he saw the flowers and paid Mrs. Guitang a good price on the spot. Later, all the flowers were sold to other places by the merchant. However, this money could not support their lives, and they still lived a very hard life.

That day, Guitang had a sudden idea and said to his wife, "My dear! The paper flowers and silk flowers you make are sold to other places by merchants for a good price. I think it would be better if I could take them to other places to sell, then life might be better!" Guitang's wife suppressed her reluctance and nostalgia and agreed to her husband's request. So, Mrs. Guitang made flowers during the day and at night, and made a batch of paper flowers and silk flowers. Guitang took these flowers and took a boat to other places.

Guitang left home for another place when the chrysanthemums were in full bloom, and when the camellias began to bloom, Guitang had not yet returned. Madam Guitang leaned against the north window every day, looking towards the seaside, and her tears unconsciously fell drop by drop under the north window, sparkling like sparkles. Madam Guitang's persistence moved the flower god, who felt very sorry for her situation, so he cast a spell to grow a flower. The place where the flower grew was exactly the north window where Madam Guitang shed tears every day. The front of this flower's leaves are green, while the back is red. The blooming flower is like the tears shed by Madam Guitang, crystal clear and adorable. Another theory is that this flower was formed from the blood that Mrs. Guitang coughed up because she missed her husband too much.

People say that Guitang went to sea in autumn and this flower also blooms in autumn. In order to commemorate him, it is called "Begonia". Because this flower was formed by the tears of Lady Guitang, some people call it "heartbreak flower" or "lovesickness grass".

The editor did not expect that behind such a beautiful and generous begonia flower there would be such a tragic love story, which makes people sigh. However, through the editor's introduction, everyone has a better understanding of begonia. Will they love and cherish it more?
