When is the best time to sow sunflower seeds?

Sunflower seed sowing time

Sunflowers are usually sown in spring, specifically from April to June. The higher the ambient temperature, the faster the germination rate. They will generally germinate ten to fifteen days after planting and will usually bloom in summer. The growth rate is relatively fast.

Sunflower seed planting method and steps

1. Seed selection

Before sowing sunflowers, be sure to choose mature and fuller seeds. Germinate the seeds before sowing. Wrap the seeds with moistened gauze and place them in a sunny place in the room. After two or three days, the seeds will sprout and can be planted.

2. Seed sowing

Sowing should be done when the temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius. Plant the seeds with the pointed end facing down in the soil, not too deep. Then cover them with a thin layer of soil and spray some water to keep the soil moist. Then place them in a sunny place indoors for maintenance. If kept outdoors, water them in time and the soil should not be too dry.

3. Transplanting

The sunflower seed buds can be transplanted after five true leaves emerge. Prepare a larger flowerpot in advance, put slightly acidic to neutral sandy soil with good drainage and air permeability in it, apply some base fertilizer to increase the nutrients in the soil. After the potting soil is ready, you can plant the sunflower seedlings in the pot.

4. Maintenance

After the sunflower is planted, keep it in a cool, well-ventilated place. After it is firmly established, place it in a sunny place. If managed properly, it will bloom in 50-60 days. During the subsequent maintenance process, it is necessary to water and fertilize it in time to meet the growth needs of the plant, so that it will grow faster and better, and the flowers will look better.
