How to propagate primrose

How to propagate primrose

1. Seed propagation

1. Harvesting

When the color of its capsule turns yellow, we can harvest its fruit. After harvesting, it must be dried in the shade but not in the sun. After drying in the shade, we can remove the shell and store it, and then we can choose the right time to plant it.

2. Planting

After the seeds are selected, we can plant them. Generally, you just need to scatter the seeds in the potting soil one by one, and then keep it warm and moisturized. Or you can use another method to plant it. Because its seed germination rate is very low, and the seeds are relatively small and not easy to obtain, so we can wait until it blooms around March to May every year, we can loosen its potting soil and let the seeds fall naturally into the pot, so that they can be planted by themselves. After planting, we need to cover it with glass to provide shade and keep it warm. It will usually germinate in 5 to 6 days.

3. Maintenance

After the seeds sprout, we can remove the glass to prevent them from growing too tall. Then wait for half a month before transplanting it.

2. Cutting and division

1. How to operate

Whether it is cuttings or division, we should first prepare the cuttings. For cuttings, it is usually carried out from May to June. First, choose a tenderer branch on the plant, cut it off and insert it into the soil. As for division, it is also very simple. It is usually done in autumn. We can cut off the tender shoots on the plant, and then plant them in the soil. After some time, the tender shoots will begin to take root.

2. Post-maintenance

No matter which method is used for propagation, we need to maintain it after the cuttings are completed. First, you can let it see the sunlight gradually and apply some fertilizer, then wait until late October, and move it to a sunny place indoors, so that it can be kept warm in time, and it will bloom in November.
