How to plant purple peony seeds

Obtaining seeds

The fruit of the purple peony matures around August. When its skin turns yellow-brown, it proves that the seeds are ripe and you can pick the fruit and collect the seeds. Remove the seeds from the fruit, wash them, and bury them in wet sand for about 7 days to break their dormancy.

In addition, the seeds need to be soaked in 50°C water for a day to allow them to absorb water and swell before they can be used for sowing.

Temperature for sowing

Sowing seeds at a suitable temperature can greatly increase the germination rate of seeds. Purple-spotted peony is suitable for sowing in relatively warm temperatures, around 22℃.

Choice of planting soil

Potting soil is the soil used by seeds to take root and grow. It is the direct source of nutrients needed for seed growth. When preparing the growing soil for the colorful purple peony, we need to fully consider its growth needs.

First of all, you need to choose a cultivation soil with high fertility. Plants need various nutrients to grow and bloom. A cultivation soil with high fertility can provide the plants with the various elements they need, helping them grow and bloom better.

Secondly, you need to choose loose growing soil and ensure that there are sufficient gaps in the growing soil to provide air flow. This can provide the plant seeds with sufficient air, allowing them to breathe easily and grow faster.

In addition, you should not choose a growing soil that is prone to water accumulation, as water accumulation may cause plant root rot.

The cultivation soil should also be disinfected before planting to prevent pathogens in the soil from infecting the seeds.

Planting method

Prepare a suitable flowerpot, put the sterilized growing soil into it, and then make the soil surface smooth without any potholes.

At this time, be careful not to compact the cultivation soil too hard, because the density of the cultivation soil is too high and the cotyledons may remain in the soil.

Then start sowing the seeds. Just place the seeds lightly on the soil surface, but make sure the seeds are evenly distributed. Don't have one side dense and the other side sparse. Otherwise, the mature plants may be dense on one side and sparse on the other, affecting the appearance.

In addition, you need to cover the surface of the seeds with a 2cm thick layer of cultivation soil to submerge the seeds.

Finally, don’t forget to wet the substrate in the pot and place it in a dark room. It won't be long before it grows out.
