How to plant Cineraria seeds

How to plant Cineraria seeds

1. Sowing time

There is no fixed sowing time for this type of plant. It usually takes about eight months to bloom. The sowing time can be calculated based on the period you want to view it. The Spring Festival is coming soon. If you want it to bloom during the Spring Festival, you can plant it in mid-to-early June. Of course, the flowering time varies depending on the variety. For example, the hybrid dwarf variety can bloom in four months, which is a relatively short time.

2. Operation steps

1. Processing

In order to increase the probability of seeds germinating, soak them in warm water for about ten hours before actually sowing. The water temperature should not be too high, about 40 degrees is enough. Seeds treated in this way can advance the germination time by three or four days.

2. Planting

Prepare a shallow wooden box or pot, put leaf mold and sifted fine sand into it. The above substrates must be sterilized before use. Mix the seeds with fine sand and plant them. The surface soil does not need to be too thick, just enough to cover the seeds.

3. Water supply

After planting the seeds, prepare a pot that is larger than the sowing container, fill it with water, and place the sowing container in it. The water will seep into the soil through the drain hole of the wooden box or pot, achieving the effect of watering.

4. Lamination

Cover the wooden box with a layer of plastic film or glass and place it in a cool and ventilated environment. Keep the temperature at around 20 degrees. The seedlings will emerge in about a week.

3. Post-management

1. Soil

After the seedlings are grown and stabilized, they can be transplanted. After transplanting, choose loose soil with good drainage. In addition to using special nutrient soil, you can also mix garden soil, leaf mold and river sand, and add appropriate amount of base fertilizer to improve fertility.

2. Temperature

Cineraria likes warm and humid conditions, but the temperature should not be too high. Just keep it at around 18℃. Too high a temperature will affect the flower buds, while too low a temperature will stop them from growing or cause them to freeze and die.

3. Moisture

The potting soil needs to be kept moist and the water requirement is relatively large. In dry weather, you can spray some water on the leaves. If flower buds are formed, give less water to promote flowering.
