How to plant wolfberry seeds

How to plant wolfberry seeds

1. Seed collection method

Generally, the seeds for growing wolfberries are commercially available. The seeds are taken from large fruit seeds, which can ensure the quality of the grown seeds to a certain extent, so you should be careful when choosing the varieties. If you want to seed yourself, you can choose the following methods:

1. Soak

This step only applies to the extraction of seeds from dried fruits. The soaking time is not fixed. Just observe until the skin of the dried fruit swells up and breaks when touched. If you are using fresh fruit to obtain seeds, this step can be skipped.

2. Crumble

Crush the soaked fruit or fresh fruit with your hands, and you can get the seeds after the pulp is separated.

3. Cleaning

There will be a lot of impurities after crushing. Wash the seeds with clean water, remove the pulp and other useless things, put it in a basin of clean water and let it stand. The seeds that float up are incomplete seeds. Pour them out together with the water. The seeds that sink to the bottom of the water can be used for sowing.

4. Drying

Spread the cleaned seeds on a clean cloth, place them in a ventilated, cool and dry place, and wait for the seeds to dry completely.

2. Sowing time

Considering factors such as temperature, sowing can be done in spring, summer and autumn, but in order to avoid the risk of overwintering and extend the growing period, most people choose to sow in spring.

3. Sowing Method

1. In order to increase the germination rate and reduce waiting time, the seeds can be stored in sand before planting. After sifting the sand, only the fine sand is left. Mix the seeds and fine sand in a ratio of 1:10, cover them with plastic film, place them indoors, and control the temperature at around 20 degrees. Spray water once or twice a day. When more than 50% of the seeds have germinated, they can be sown.

2. Dig a sowing trench on the planting ground, sow the seeds, and gently press the seeds with your feet to bury them in the soil, or cover them with about three or four millimeters of soil after sowing. Pour water on the sowing hole. The water level should not be too high, just shallow enough to cover the seeds.

3. Watering in the later stage depends on the dryness of the soil. Water only after the soil surface is dry. Under warm and humid conditions, it will sprout in about a week.
