How to grow oil painting flowers until they overflow the pot?

Oil painting flowers generally refer to oil painting wedding spider plants , which are very popular online celebrity plants in recent years. The leaves have colorful stripes and are very beautiful. So how do you grow oil painting flowers to bloom? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Pot soil selection

The oil painting spider plant has a fleshy stem and is drought-resistant, but very afraid of waterlogging. If you want to grow the oil painting spider plant well, it is recommended to use a more breathable pot such as a Qingshan pot or a clay pot. It is recommended to mix 1 part coconut coir or peat + 1 part perlite for the potting soil. This combination of pots and soil will make watering easier in the later stage.

2. Water appropriately

When watering the Chlorophytum comosum, follow the basic principle of watering when the soil is dry. You can touch the surface of the soil in the pot with your hand. When the soil surface is 2-3 cm dry, you can water it thoroughly. You can also weigh the flower pot and water it thoroughly at once if it is very light. In the hot and humid weather in summer, reduce watering appropriately and water thoroughly when the soil is dry to prevent root suffocation and rot.

3. Appropriate fertilization

Proper fertilization can make the leaves of the Chlorophytum comosum more vivid. Generally, a growth fertilizer with a balanced content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is suitable. Occasionally, add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and mix with water to spray on the leaves or irrigate the roots. Remember not to apply high nitrogen fertilizer, as it will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long and the leaves to turn green.

4. Light temperature

When caring for the oil painting spider plant, control the temperature at around 20℃. It should not lack light. Sufficient scattered light will promote photosynthesis, which is most conducive to plant growth and make the leaves look beautiful. In winter, it should be moved indoors to protect it from the cold and keep the temperature above 10℃.

5. Prune frequently

The painting spider plant grows vigorously. If it is allowed to grow freely, it will grow in a mess. If you want the plant to have a beautiful shape, you must be willing to prune it. Branches that are too long need to be topped and shortened. Side branches will soon sprout, making the plant more compact.
