How to pot orchids

Preparation before potting

Whether it is the first time to pot or to repot afterwards, you should choose spring and autumn, when the temperature is moderate. You should choose a flower pot with a smaller mouth but a deeper one, and the hole at the bottom should also be larger to allow better ventilation and drainage. When you first start planting, you can choose a clay pot, which will make it easier for the plants to take root. When changing the pot after planting for 2-3 years, you should choose a purple clay pot or a porcelain pot.

Unlike other flowers, this kind of flower must be washed before repotting, and the roots must be brushed with a soft-bristled tool. Using too much force may damage the roots. At the same time, the fallen leaves, yellow leaves, and blackened roots must all be removed, but the small buds should not be damaged. Then you can’t put it in a pot directly, you have to put it in a cool place to cool down.

How to install the pot

Method 1: Inverted

After preparing the planting material, turn the dried plants upside down and hold the orchid head with your hands, and use something that can support the roots, such as bamboo chopsticks, to fix the roots. Now you can place it in the pot, but don't let the roots touch the pot. Spread mixed gravel on the bottom of the pot, and then fill it with planting material, making sure it is filled firmly. At this time, you can remove the bamboo chopsticks you have just used, and finally install a strong weight and shake it firmly.

Method 2: Formal Wear

When using this method, you need to pay attention to the drainage capacity of the bottom of the pot. First, fill the pot with 2/5 of coarse stone culture soil, and then put the plant in. Make sure the roots stretch naturally and do not curl. The plant should be placed closer to the center so that new roots have room to grow. Hold the plant with your left hand and slowly fill the soil with your right hand. Shake the pot while adding soil so that it can be in closer contact with the soil. The top surface should be covered with moss or fine pebbles. Water the plant immediately after potting it, but be sure to shade it for a month. After that, control watering and place it in a semi-shaded location for maintenance.
