How to propagate the calathea

Cuttings

Operation steps: Select newly grown branches with 2 to 3 leaves, or choose branches growing downward as cuttings; after selection, you can directly insert them into the sand, and new roots will grow in about 35 days, and then you can transplant them. However, the sand must be kept moist during this period, and the air must also have a certain degree of humidity.

Breeding season: Summer

Division

Operation steps: Select old plants that are strong, lush and dense, dig them out together with the roots, cut them into multiple sections along the direction of the rhizome, but make sure that each section has 2 to 3 buds. Plant them in the soil immediately after cutting, and then place the flower pot in a cool place for maintenance for a week, and then move it to a place with good light for maintenance. Note here that you cannot move it from a cool place to a place with strong light all at once, and there must be a buffer in the middle. Wait until new roots grow out before watering normally. Before that, just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. If the temperature permits, division propagation can also be carried out from March to April, which is the time to repot the plants.

Reproduction time: early summer, when the temperature is 20 degrees (if the temperature is too low, the roots will be easily damaged, which will greatly affect the survival rate, or the reproduced plants will have weak growth).
