Early spring cabbage planting time

Early spring cabbage planting time

Early spring cabbage refers to a cabbage variety planted and harvested in the early spring season. It has a short growing period, generally taking about 50-70 days from sowing to harvesting. It is suitable for rapid growth under low temperatures in spring. Below, the editor will introduce the cultivation time of early spring cabbage, let’s take a look.

1. Early spring cabbage cultivation time

1. Open-field cultivation: Generally, sowing is carried out from late March to early April. At this time, the temperature gradually warms up and the soil temperature stabilizes at above 13°C, which can avoid vernalization and early bolting.

2. Greenhouse or small arch shed cultivation: The sowing time can be appropriately advanced. Generally, seedlings are raised from late February to mid-March, and transplanted in mid-to-late March.

3. Greenhouse seedling cultivation: In the cold northern regions, you can choose to cultivate seedlings in a greenhouse or improved sunbeds from the end of December to early January, and the seedling age can be controlled at about 30 days.

2. Early spring cabbage cultivation method

1. Site selection and land preparation

For plots of land where Chinese cabbage is planted in spring, it is best to deep plow and dry the soil before winter. After the soil thaws the following spring, apply 5,000 kg of well-rotted high-quality fertilizer per mu, and then plow and level the land to make ridges. The width of the bed should be 1-1.2 meters and the length should be about 20 meters.

2. Fertilization

Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer. Generally, 4000-5000 kg of rotted farm manure , 100 kg of superphosphate, 25 kg of ammonium sulfate, and 15 kg of potassium sulfate are applied per mu. After thorough mixing, they are spread and deep plowed.

3. Sow seeds at the right time

If the soil moisture is not good in early spring, water the seeds 7-10 days before sowing to create moisture. When sowing, geothermal heating lines can be used in large plastic greenhouses and small plastic greenhouses to heat the seedlings. Plant 2-3 rows per bed, with a row spacing of 40-50 cm and a hole spacing of 35-40 cm. Sow 5-6 seeds in each hole, and use 75-100 grams of seeds per mu. After sowing, cover the soil and film to increase the ground temperature so that the seedlings can grow evenly and fully.

4. Thinning

Seedlings will emerge 4-6 days after sowing. After emergence, break the film in time to let the cotyledons appear out of the film, and compact the small holes in the film with soil to prevent burning of the seedlings. After the seedlings break the heart, thin them out once when they have 3-4 true leaves, and transplant them when they have 5-6 true leaves.

5. Reasonable density planting

Determine the appropriate seedling age. The cabbage head is generally composed of 35-70 leaves, and it takes about 1 month in spring for the 8 true leaves to unfold. If the seedling period is too long, the survival rate will be reduced when planted in the ground. If insufficient leaves are transplanted, it will affect the differentiation of leaf buds, leading to premature formation of flower buds and bolting. Generally speaking, medium-sized varieties can be planted at 2,000 to 2,200 plants per acre, and large varieties can be planted at 1,800 to 2,000 plants per acre.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation time of early spring cabbage. The leaves of early spring cabbage are fresh and tender, crisp in taste, rich in nutrients, and have strong cold resistance. It can grow normally in the lower temperatures in early spring and avoid frost damage.
