How to propagate tiger pineapple

How to propagate tiger pineapple

sowing

First of all, we have to talk about the most difficult seed propagation. Because it is generally difficult to obtain seeds for this kind of ornamental pineapple, you must choose artificial pollination. But even if pollination is successful, the pineapple that grows may not be the same as imagined. Most seeds lose their vitality soon after leaving the plant, so they should be sown as soon as possible after being collected. There can be dozens of seeds in one fruit, so a single plant can have thousands of seeds. But each seed is very small, so you have to be careful.

The sowing medium can be a mixture of river sand, peat soil and perlite, and it must be disinfected before sowing. There is no need to cover the soil after sowing, but a layer of plastic film should be used to maintain temperature and humidity. The surrounding temperature should be maintained at 24-26℃, so that it can germinate in less than half a month. When 3-4 true leaves appear, transplanting can be carried out.

Division

If conditions permit, try to use this method of reproduction, which is both simple and fast. The best time to divide the plants is around May, because the temperature during this period is neither too high nor too low, which is very suitable for their growth. To remove the whole plant from the mother plant, you don't need any tools. Just use your hands to apply force diagonally downward to break off the buds you want. Disinfect the wound first, then let it dry, and then insert the prepared culture soil. Proper shade is needed in the early stage, and normal maintenance can be carried out after new buds grow after one or two months.

Cuttings

This method is very common and is also suitable for family farming. However, not every part of the plant is suitable for cuttings, and generally suckers are used for cuttings. This method is usually performed around the time of flowering, when the tiller buds grow to about 10 cm and have 3-5 leaves. Still disinfect and dry in the same way. Then apply rooting powder and insert it into the substrate, provide appropriate shade, and you can maintain it normally after one or two months.
