Does Begonia need sunlight?

Need some sun?

Begonia, like most plants, loves light and is sensitive to sunlight. Sunlight is a form of energy for it. Begonias that do not receive light for a long time not only grow poorly but are also prone to diseases and pests.

How to get some sun

Indoor sunbathing

If grown indoors, it should be placed in a well-ventilated sunny place. If there is insufficient light for a long time, it will affect the normal growth of the flowers and seriously reduce the ornamental value of the Begonia, causing it to bloom less, the flower color to become lighter, and the leaves to wilt.

Sun time

From April to October, in the East China region, the Begonia needs to be placed in full-day shade for maintenance, but it needs a little sunlight in the early morning and evening.

Summer sun

In summer, it is necessary to provide shade. At noon when the light is strong, be careful not to expose the plant to direct sunlight and adjust the lighting time to prevent the leaves from being burned.

Winter sun terrace

When the temperature is cold in winter, it is necessary to ensure that the begonia plants can get sufficient light. After it is planted, it can be exposed to direct sunlight in early spring. Of course, as the light gradually increases, the Begonia plant needs to be properly shaded.

How to sunbathe new plants

However, please note that for the Begonia that has just been repotted, it is best not to rush to expose it to the sun, but to place it in a place with relatively weak light indoors first. Because the root system of the plant is damaged at this time and cannot absorb water well, if it is exposed to the sun at this time, it will increase the evaporation of the leaves, causing a large amount of water loss, and it will not be well replenished in a short period of time. In severe cases, it may even cause the plant to dehydrate and die. Therefore, wait until the root system of the plant has almost recovered, and then move it to a location with better light and let it bask in the sun.
