How to plant peony seeds

How to plant peony seeds

In autumn, when the follicles turn crab yellow, they can be harvested. Peonies cannot be harvested too early or too late. If they are harvested too early, the seeds will not be mature enough. If they are harvested too late, the seed coat will become black and hard and it will be difficult for them to germinate. If seeds are collected and sown too late when planting peonies, the germination rate will be reduced and the seedlings will have to wait until the third year to emerge. Due to the different varieties of peonies, harvesting needs to be adapted to local conditions and harvested in batches.

Before sowing peony seeds, they need to be soaked in water for a day to allow them to absorb water, swell and soften. When the seeds turn white, they should be evenly sown in potted plants or garden beds.

Peony seed sowing time

When planting peony seeds, you must choose the right time, preferably between August and October. The climate and temperature during this period are more suitable for it, and it can germinate faster after planting, and the seedlings can grow vigorously in the later stage. Be careful not to plant it too early, otherwise the temperature will be too high, and not too late, otherwise the temperature will be difficult to control in the later stage.
