Cultivation methods and precautions of Sedum

Sedum is a succulent plant of the genus Sedum in the family Crassulaceae . It is a small variety that grows easily in groups. It is heat-resistant, drought-resistant and cold-resistant. It can grow out of the pot easily, making it suitable for beginners. So how do you grow Sedum? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Pot soil selection

Sedum is strong and tolerant of poor soil. It can grow normally in various loams, such as sticky and sandy ones. When potting , you can use a smaller flower pot, and the potting soil can be a mixture of ordinary garden soil and a small amount of river sand.

2. Lighting requirements

Sedum has a property of "adapting to light". In a sunny place, its leaves are yellow-green; if moved to a slightly darker place, the leaves will turn into a darker green. If there is a lack of light for a long time, the stems will grow too luxuriantly, the internodes will become elongated, and the plant will become stout.

3. Temperature control

Sedum has a certain degree of cold resistance and can grow at lower temperatures, but it is best to avoid an environment below 10℃ for a long time. In winter, if possible, it should be placed in a sunny and windproof place. Normally, try to keep the temperature between 15-30℃.

4. Reasonable watering

Sedum is drought tolerant, but needs to keep the soil moist during the growing season, especially when temperatures warm up in the spring. In summer, you can increase the frequency of watering appropriately to maintain the water balance of the plants.

5. Fertilization points

During the growing season of Sedum, it is best to water it with rotted manure once a month, so that it can grow green and vigorous, with stems and vines spreading all around the wall. In May and June, more flowers will bloom, and the pot will be full of yellow flowers, creating a great ornamental effect.

6. Notes

(1) Although Sedum is hardy and has few diseases and insect pests, you still need to pay attention to removing weeds and avoiding trampling when caring for it outdoors.

(2) Avoid overwatering, especially in spring and after summer, to prevent the roots from being too wet and affecting plant health.

(3) Regularly trim the yellow leaves to keep the plants clean and tidy.

(4) The pH value of the soil required by Sedum is between 6.5 and 7.5. If the soil is too acidic, you may need to raise the pH by adding fertilizer or lime .

In general, Sedum is a common succulent plant. Its leaves are yellow-green or dark green and shaped like a Buddha's hand, hence the name. The cultivation method is also relatively simple because it has strong adaptability and can grow normally in ordinary soil.
