How to propagate Lilium odoratum

How to propagate Lilium odoratum

There are two common methods of propagation of Lilium lily: seed propagation and bulb propagation.

Seed propagation

The germination rate of seed reproduction is relatively low. After a series of pollination, the royal lily can produce 8-12 capsules on each flower stem. Each capsule contains about 60 seeds. The germination rate of seed reproduction of the royal lily is relatively low, but if it is treated with gibberellins, the germination rate of the royal lily will be improved. Seed propagation and germination are rather troublesome, and usually take about two years to germinate, because the seed skin is relatively hard and has a deep dormancy. Therefore, seed propagation is not as convenient as bulb propagation.

Bulb propagation

When propagating lilies of the lantern using bulbs, the bulbs used must weigh at least 5 grams. Generally speaking, the heavier the bulbs, the taller the plant will grow and the more flowers it will produce.
When the royal lantern lily is propagated by bulbs, each bulb with two growth points can produce two new sub-bulbs, but the reproduction rate of this method is relatively low. The sub-bulbs will grow into secondary bulbs during their growth, but the secondary bulbs can easily break away from the sub-bulbs, causing them to lose their ability to grow.
