Maintenance methods to make snapdragon flowers colorful

Suitable growing environment

Snapdragon likes light and can tolerate partial shade. It likes coolness in summer and avoids extreme heat, so it is necessary to provide appropriate shade and cooling in summer. It is relatively cold-resistant in winter and is suitable for planting in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. To make its flowers more colorful, the snapdragon should be placed in a cool environment and ensure that it has sufficient light.

Reasonable fertilization

After planting, more topdressing is needed. Generally, it can be applied once every ten days during the growth period. You can choose to apply a mixed fertilizer containing helium and potassium with a concentration of about 0.01%. Since snapdragons have rhizobia that fix nitrogen, there is generally no need to apply nitrogen fertilizer. Just apply an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. The soil should be loosened and weeded before each fertilization. During the growth period of snapdragon, fermented oil residue water can be applied every 15 days or so in combination with watering. When flower buds appear, you can spray 1.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to make the flowers brighter.

Reasonable watering

The soil in the pot needs to be loosened regularly and the amount of water should be reasonable. Watering should be controlled in winter. This will allow the snapdragon plant to grow healthily and have many colorful flowers. During the seedling stage of snapdragon, seedling rot often occurs, which can be prevented and controlled by spraying Bordeaux mixture.

Pruning and shaping

When the seedlings grow to about 10 cm, they can be pinched off, which not only increases the number of side branches and promotes more flowering, but also helps to dwarf the plants. Pruning mainly involves removing diseased and weak branches, old and dead branches, and overcrowded branches. In addition, after the flowers have bloomed, the remaining flowers and branches that have bloomed need to be cut off to promote the sprouting of new branches and achieve the purpose of extending the flowering period.
