How to grow jasmine in winter

Jasmine winter protection

In winter, jasmine needs to pay attention to the issue of anti-freeze. Jasmine is afraid of cold, so it needs to take insulation measures in winter to survive the winter safely. However, the anti-freeze measures are not very complicated. If the temperature drops below 5℃, you need to move the jasmine to a warm room, but be careful not to bring it indoors too early. It is best to let the jasmine experience appropriate low temperatures so that it can better adapt to the winter.

When jasmine is brought indoors in winter, it needs to be placed where it can be exposed to sunlight. If the indoor temperature gradually drops to below 0℃, you can cover it with a plastic bag to keep it warm, but if the temperature is relatively high, there is no need to cover it with a plastic bag.

Watering jasmine in winter

In winter, jasmine enters a dormant period, during which its growth rate slows down and its demand for water decreases.

Before winter, you need to prune the branches and leaves to reduce water evaporation. Do not water too much. It is best to keep the soil not too wet, just slightly moist. Generally, watering is required once every half a month. It is best to water at noon when the temperature is higher, and the water temperature should not be too low.

Winter pruning of jasmine

It is very necessary to prune jasmine in winter. Jasmine grows very fast and grows many branches every year. Before winter, the new branches of the jasmine should be pruned, the old branches of the year should be appropriately shortened, and the thin branches should be cut off, leaving only some branches and leaves at the bottom. This will help the jasmine survive the winter.

Another pruning can be done before germination in spring to promote better germination.
