How to prevent fig fruit drop

How to prevent fig fruit drop

Pay attention to proper fertilization

Reasonable fertilization can reduce fig fruit drop to a certain extent. The branches of figs grow continuously, and flowering and fruiting occur at the same time, so we must pay attention to reasonable fertilization. Apply some nitrogen fertilizer in the early stage of the fruit tree to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Don't apply too much fertilizer, as long as the figs can grow healthily. There is no need to apply organic fertilizer to fruit trees that are three or four years old. Some urea can be applied before the fig fruits swell rapidly.

Pay attention to drainage

Fig is a drought-resistant plant with a very strong root system, but it is not tolerant to waterlogging, so we must pay attention to drainage when planting fig trees. Because fig leaves are very large, the transpiration capacity of the leaves is also very strong, so in the summer, you should pay attention to providing the figs with sufficient water. Water them in time during the dry season or after fertilizing. Also, water them with an appropriate amount of freezing water before wintering.

Proper watering and drainage can make the fig tree healthier and stronger, and less likely to cause fruit drop. In addition, pay attention to proper drainage during the rainy season and when the fruit is about to ripen. Too much water will increase the weight of the fig and make it more likely to cause fruit drop.

Pay attention to pest control

Pests and diseases can weaken fig trees and affect their absorption of nutrients. Malnourished fig trees are prone to fruit drop. Therefore, we should always observe the fig trees to see if there are any insect pests. Once an insect pest occurs, we must deal with it immediately, use relevant pesticides, and kill the pests in time according to the instructions to prevent figs from falling.

Reasonable spraying of growth hormone

When the temperature drops suddenly, the ripening time of figs will be delayed, which will cause the figs to fall. In this case, we can spray relevant growth hormones to make the fig fruits mature at a reasonable time. This can not only prevent the figs from falling, but also improve the quality of the fig fruits.
