Shrimp farming methods and techniques

Shrimp farming methods and techniques

Prawn, also known as Chinese white shrimp and oriental shrimp, is a kind of marine shrimp. In China, it is mainly distributed in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea. Because of its delicious and thick meat and extremely rich nutrition, it is very popular in the market. So what are the methods and techniques for breeding shrimp? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Pond construction

Prawn farming is generally carried out in ponds. When building a pond, you should choose a place with flat terrain, fertile soil and sufficient water resources. The depth is about 1.8 meters and it is equipped with a complete water supply and drainage system and oxygenation equipment.

2. Water quality requirements

Water quality is crucial to the growth of shrimp. Breeding requires clean, transparent, oxygen-rich water. The water temperature is generally between 20℃-30℃ and the pH value is 7.5-8.5. At the same time, the content of harmful substances such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, hydrogen sulfide, etc. in the water should be controlled within a low range to ensure the growth and health of shrimp.

3. Feeding

Prawns are omnivorous. They can feed on plant-based baits such as wheat , aquatic plants, and rapeseed cakes, as well as animal-based baits such as miscellaneous fish, miscellaneous meat, and livestock offal. Pay attention to feeding the right amount of feed according to the number of shrimps and their growth stage, avoiding too much or too little feed.

4. Daily management

Regularly observe the growth, activity and feeding conditions of the shrimp, and record relevant data in order to adjust management strategies in a timely manner; water quality indicators such as temperature, pH value, dissolved oxygen content, etc. should be tested regularly to keep the water clean and stable; change the water regularly, generally 1/3 to 1/2 of the water per week, to maintain the ecological balance of the water body and a suitable growth environment.

5. Disease prevention and control

In terms of disease prevention and control, pond cleanliness and sanitation should be strengthened, and water quality should be controlled by frequent water changes, controlling reasonable stocking density, using safe and harmless water purification facilities and necessary bacterial agents. At the same time, strengthen pond patrols to promptly detect and deal with pests and diseases.

6. Fish at the right time

Under suitable temperature and sufficient food conditions, prawns usually reach commercial specifications in about 60-90 days. If the fish are released in March, fishing can begin in June, adopting the principle of catching the big ones and leaving the small ones to increase the recapture rate.

In general, in the process of shrimp farming, the focus should be on water quality regulation and daily management to create a suitable growth environment in order to increase the success rate of shrimp farming.
