How to reproduce Datura

How to reproduce Datura

Seed propagation of Datura

Datura is usually propagated by sowing. Generally, the seeds will mature in winter. The mature seeds can be taken out and sown in the second year. It should be noted that it is difficult for Datura to bear fruit, so artificial pollination can be carried out to promote the ripening of the fruit.

The sowing of Datura is generally carried out in early April. It can be sown directly or by raising seedlings and transplanting. Sprinkle the seeds on the sowing bed, cover them lightly with soil, compact them and spray them with water. They will germinate soon. When they germinate, you can cover them with some straw to provide shade and moisturize. After a period of growth, they can be transplanted. Transplanting can usually be done in late May to early June.

During the growth period of seedlings, weeding should be done at all times, and soil should be added in time to prevent the plants from falling over. When the seedlings are about 10 cm tall, thinning can be carried out, and weak seedlings can be removed. Generally, two seedlings can be kept in each hole. When the growth is more vigorous, appropriate top dressing can be applied. When the Datura seedlings have 4-6 true leaves, they can be transplanted.

Cutting propagation of Datura

In addition to sowing and propagating, Datura can also use cuttings to propagate new plants.

The cutting propagation of Datura can be carried out in spring or autumn. When cutting in spring, you can choose 1-year-old to 2-year-old branches. When cutting in autumn, you can choose mature branches of the current year as cuttings. When taking cuttings, you can choose vermiculite or perlite as the cutting medium, insert the cuttings into the medium, and maintain a certain air humidity. Generally, they will take root in about 15-20 days.
