How to store daffodil bulbs after they bloom

How to store daffodil bulbs after they bloom

Should the bulbs be thrown away?

When many people grow daffodils, they admire the beautiful flowers of the daffodils and think that the daffodils can no longer bloom again, so they throw away the bulbs of the daffodils that have bloomed.

In fact, there is no need to throw it away. Narcissus itself is a perennial plant that can reproduce by relying on bulbs. Narcissus that has already bloomed can still use the bulbs to continue growing, reproducing and blooming. However, it should be noted that after continued cultivation, it may not bloom in the second year and it will take 2 to 4 years of care before it can bloom.

How to store bulbs

Water culture bulb preservation

After the water-grown daffodils have faded, you can take out the bulbs, cut off the dead leaves and residual flowers from the base, then place the bulbs in a ventilated and cool place to dry, and then store them in a dry place. In September, the daffodil bulbs can be removed and replanted.

Choose a place with plenty of sunlight and bury the bulbs deeply in fertile and loose soil. Be sure to plant them deeper, add enough base fertilizer and water them frequently. After new leaves grow out, apply top dressing 1 or 2 times.

As the bulbs grow and new bulbs emerge, they can be moved outdoors in the spring, where they will need adequate shade. The same thing happens in the second year. Dig up the bulbs in the summer and replant them in the autumn. After 3 or 4 years of cultivation, they will have a chance to bloom again.

Soil-grown bulb preservation

Daffodils grown in soil are usually planted in the ground or in pots. Cut off the dead leaves and flowers of the withered daffodils, and use the same care methods as for daffodils grown in water. After 2 to 3 years of care, they will bloom again.
