How to propagate Cordyceps

How to propagate Cordyceps

The propagation methods of Cordyline are divided into cutting propagation, layering propagation and sowing propagation.

Cutting propagation

The branching ability of Cordyline is relatively poor, so it is necessary to cultivate mother plants for cuttings. From June to October, cut the top branches of Cordyline, about 8 to 10 cm long, with 5 to 6 leaves, cut them short and insert them into the sand bed. Keep it moist. The suitable temperature range is 24 to 27℃, not lower than 20℃. It will take about 30 to 40 days for the seeds to take root and sprout after sowing, and then they can be potted when the new branches grow to 4 to 5 cm. The cuttings need to be treated with 0.2% indolebutyric acid for 2 seconds, which can increase the rooting rate and shorten the rooting days.

Layering propagation

In May and June, the method of high-altitude layering is usually used for reproduction. Select a strong main stem, peel it in a ring shape 20 cm away from the top with a width of 1 cm, cover it with moist moss, and then wrap it with plastic film. The indoor temperature needs to be kept above 20℃. It will take about 40 days for the roots to grow, and then cut it into a potted plant after 60 days.

Seed propagation

The seeds of Cordyline mature in September. Its seeds are relatively large and are usually sown in shallow pots. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 24-27℃. They will germinate 2 weeks after sowing and be transplanted into 4 cm pots when the seedlings are 4-5 cm tall.
