Prepare the Materials1. Container selectionFirst, you need a clay pot with good drainage and enough drainage holes. Prepare gravel and pebbles for the bottom, and choose loose potting soil. 2. Soil mediumIf you just want to make the plants take root, you can prepare perlite or river sand in advance, insert the plant cuttings into them to keep them warm, and put them in bags. The success rate will be faster than rooting in soil. 3. Rooting powderWhether to decide to use rooting agent depends on what plant you are cutting. If it is a rose, tomato, vanilla plant or other plant that is easy to root, then it is not necessary. After all, it is a chemical substance, so don't use too much. Just use the appropriate amount according to the instructions. (You can also use willow branches and leaves soaked in hot water instead) Cutting process1. Soil preparationThe soil can be mixed with some river sand or perlite to increase drainage and air permeability. Then spray the soil with water, making it moist but not saturated. If it is too wet, it is not suitable. 2. Plant cuttings processingThe scissors used to cut the cuttings must be sterilized and sharp, and cut diagonally along the plant stem. The scissors used here are as a demonstration. Cutting at an angle can increase the contact area between the cuttings and the soil, making the rooting area larger and easier to take root. If it is other cuttings, remove the lower leaves and leave 4 leaves on the top. Also remove the extra flower buds and do not leave any flowers after cuttings. You can dip it in rooting powder (just a little on the bottom), if you decide to use it, just a little, or you can add water and soak it in the solution for a few minutes. 3. Cutting treatmentUse your fingers to dig a small hole and bury the stem of the plant in the soil, about 1/4 of the way down, and press the soil down slightly. If the temperature is lower than 17 degrees, it will not be easy to propagate by cuttings. Then we can cover it with plastic wrap. The cuttings of the cactus are not high, so you can cover them directly with plastic wrap. If the cuttings are taller, you need to use a plastic bag that stands upright to avoid contact between the plastic bag and the cuttings. You can provide some support. 4. PlacementPlace the potted plants with cuttings in a warm, ventilated place with diffuse light, and uncover the film for 3 hours at noon every day. (You can also poke a few more holes in the plastic wrap) Spray water frequently to keep the soil in the pot slightly moist but not wet, and avoid water accumulation. Spray the plants with mist water every day. After 1 to 2 weeks, you will see them starting to grow roots. In general, the plastic wrap was used to create a device similar to a small greenhouse. Flower lovers who suddenly want to take cuttings in winter can try it. |
