Definition of old pile

Old stumps refer to old plants of succulents that have grown for many years and have obvious main trunks or branches. Generally, old stumps of succulents are plants of the Crassulaceae family. It takes at least 1-2 years and at most 3-5 years to grow them into old stumps. If you ignore the time, flower lovers don’t need to do anything, succulents will form the shape of old piles by themselves.

How to make fake old piles

first step:

A succulent plant with spindles. If the succulent plants in your home do not have spindles, it’s okay. Just move them indoors and they will soon become spindles.

Step 2:

Carefully remove the lower leaves of the succulent plants that have grown leggy. Don’t be reluctant, the leaves you plucked can still be used for leaf grafting!

Step 3:

Apply carbendazim or other disinfectants on the leaf wounds to prevent the plants from being infected.

Step 4:

Place the succulent in the sun and care for it normally.

Step 5:

The next step is to wait for the stems of the succulent plants to become lignified. This process will inevitably be long. After about a year, you will see a beautiful old succulent plant!

How to distinguish old piles from fake old piles

1. The stems of old stumps are woody and not easy to break, while the pseudo-old stumps made from succulents that have grown too long have green stems that are very fragile.

2. Look at the marks of leaves on the pole. The longer the time, the fewer marks left by the falling leaves on the pole. However, for those quickly grown pseudo-old poles, the scars left by the fallen leaves will be more obvious.

All the methods for making old piles are here.

If you like beautiful old piles but think it takes too long, why not try fake old piles!
