Why is vanilla planted in autumn?

Overcoming Weeds

When sowing in spring, it is easy for some small grass to grow on the edge of the flowerpot. The newly grown herbs may be covered by weeds, especially for novice flower growers. They may not be able to tell which is which, so that in the end, the herbs die and the weeds grow everywhere. They have been growing grass for a long time!

Spring is here

The flowering period of vanilla is generally in May. After two seasons of growth after sowing in autumn, the root system of vanilla is sufficiently developed and there are enough branches in spring, which will produce more vital flowers.

Lavender

Sowing time

The planting time of lavender is affected by temperature. It is generally planted from March to June or from September to November in warm areas. In cold areas, it can be planted indoors. It can grow as long as the temperature is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.

It usually takes 18 to 20 weeks from planting lavender to blooming. For a long time, you can't tell what the lavender originally looked like.

Sowing method

1. Choose a pot: When sowing lavender at home, it is generally better to choose a smaller pot, or use other beautiful containers instead.

2. Choose soil: Lavender seeds are relatively small and difficult to germinate, so the soil must be loose and breathable with high water holding capacity. It is best to disinfect it before sowing.

3. Seed soaking: Soak the lavender seeds in 40℃ warm water for 24 hours to promote germination.

4. Plant 2 to 3 lavender seeds in each pot. After the seeds germinate, thin out the seedlings appropriately based on their growth. When the seedlings grow 4 to 6 leaves, they can be potted!

Lemon Verbena

Sowing time

Lemon verbena is suitable for sowing in spring and autumn. It prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight, so it is planted indoors and is usually placed on a south-facing balcony. If sown in autumn, the seedlings are relatively fragile, so you must pay attention to cold protection after winter.

Sowing method

1. Select soil and sow: Lemon verbena is generally sown with peat soil + perlite + river sand, and a small amount of organic fertilizer is added to make it into nutrient soil. After the soil is prepared, spread the seeds evenly in the soil, cover with a thin layer of soil, and water thoroughly.

2. Seedling cultivation: After the seeds are planted, keep the room well ventilated and control the indoor temperature at around 20°C. When the seedlings grow to 3-5 cm in height, they can be transplanted into pots!

3. Maintenance: Lemon verbena grows very quickly and needs to be pruned frequently to promote new branches. The withered branches and leaves need to be trimmed in time to maintain good ventilation and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. When the soil in the pot becomes dry, water it in time to avoid water accumulation in the pot. Be careful not to water directly on the leaves and flowers.

Catnip

Sowing time

The best time for sowing is mid-September. Catnip likes cool environments and has strong vitality. It blooms in summer. You can see it where there are beautiful flowers such as lavender and roses, but if planted alone, the blue flowers are also very beautiful!

Sowing method

1. Sowing: Choose a medium flowerpot and sow the seeds evenly, 1 to 3 seeds per hole. After planting, cover with a thin layer of soil and keep the temperature at 18~22 degrees Celsius. Seedlings will emerge in about 2 weeks.

2. Transplantation: 4 to 6 weeks after germination, move the individual seedlings into pots and select appropriate pots based on their growth conditions.

3. Maintenance: Watering with fungicide once after transplanting can prevent root fungal infection and rot. Catnip is not very demanding on the environment and can be planted in both the north and the south, but it should be noted that in an environment below 12 degrees Celsius, catnip will be damaged by frost, so keep warm.
