How to plant Taiping flower

Taipinghua Introduction

Taiping flower is a deciduous shrub with a height of 1 to 2 meters. It blooms from May to June and the fruit ripens from August to September. It likes sunshine, tolerates shade and has strong cold resistance. It can overwinter in the open in North China, southeastern Northeast China and most parts of Northwest China.

It can tolerate moderate drought but not waterlogging. It can grow normally in saline soil with a salt content of about 0.12%, but it grows best in moist sandy loam. Resistant to pruning and long life.

How to propagate Taiping flower

sowing

The fruit matures from August to September and the seeds are tiny. The retrieved fruits can be placed in a container to dry, rub and remove impurities to obtain pure seeds. Store dry for a winter, mix with fine sand around the Qingming Festival next year, and sow in pots. Choose a taller and deeper flower pot, or sow in the courtyard. After sowing, cover with a layer of film to keep moisture, and water lightly before seedlings emerge.

Division

It is usually carried out before buds sprout in spring. The sprouts that grow from around the mother plant can be cut off with part of the root system and planted separately. In autumn, the roots of the seedlings need to be dug out and transplanted into the soil, and they can be planted out the following spring.

Cuttings

Soft branch cuttings should be carried out from late May to early June to facilitate rooting. Select the upper and middle sections of the current year's branches, 10 cm long, and leave two or three leaves on the upper part.

When conditions permit, rooting powder can be used for cuttings, which can greatly increase the rooting rate. Soak the cuttings in rooting powder for 3 hours before cutting, then insert them into the soil, control the temperature at around 25℃, and they will take root in about 20 days.

How to grow Taipinghua

Water and fertilizer management

During the growing season every year, apply an appropriate amount of well-rotted compost, organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer once before germination in spring, and apply more phosphorus fertilizer after the leaves fall in autumn to make the flowers flourish and the leaves lush.

No more fertilizer is applied during the summer growing period. In the dry season, pay attention to watering and keep the soil moist. Excessive drought or barrenness will lead to poor growth and few and small flowers.

Plastic pruning

During the dormant period in winter and spring, thin out old branches, dead branches, overcrowded branches, etc., and at the same time do short pruning to promote new branches and make the crown beautiful and tidy. Keep two or three buds at the base of the branches and cut them short, and encourage the old branches to be constantly renewed.

If you do not want to keep seeds after the flowers fade, you should cut off the inflorescence in time to save nutrients. During daily pruning, remove diseased, dead and overgrown branches in time, and pay attention to retaining new branches to facilitate flowering.

Pest and disease control

The main pests and diseases of Taipinghua are mulberry leaf moth and whitefly. Once found, spray pesticides in time. You can use 3000 to 3500 times diluted 2.5% cypermethrin, 4000 times diluted 2.5% Gongfu emulsion, etc. for spraying two or three times in a row, with four or five days between each time.
