How to sow star flowers

Preparation before sowing

Because the seeds of star flower are relatively small, prepare a plug tray as a seedling raising facility.

The substrate is generally made of humus-rich, well-drained, sterile soil with a clay content of 10%-20%. Some coconut fiber, perlite and other substances can be added appropriately. The substrate also needs iron chelates and trace nutrients. The pH value is 6.5 to 6.8, and the EC value is 0.75ms/cm.

Steps of sowing

Sow the seeds in hole trays or seedling trays, one seed in each hole. The hole size should be 1.5-2 cm.

It will germinate about 10-14 days after sowing. Control the growth temperature at 23℃-26℃ and maintain the relative humidity in the air at 100% until the leaves grow out.

During the germination period, sufficient watering is required to accelerate the dissolution of the outer layer of the pollen flower and promote germination.

The star flower can be transplanted into a pot 7-9 weeks after sowing. The diameter of the pot should be 10-15 cm. The cultivation medium should be sterile, slightly fertilizer-containing and well-drained peat soil with a pH value of 6.5-6.8.

Notes on sowing

Before sowing, apply one or two kilograms of complete balanced fertilizer and slow-release fertilizer per cubic meter of the substrate to keep the soil fertile and provide sufficient nutrients for the seeds.

During the growth stage of plug seedlings, the relative humidity should be reduced to 50% to prevent leaf diseases.

If the light intensity is kept stable at 1000 lux during the germination period, the new sprouts will grow more uniformly and with higher quality. After germination, the light intensity should be maintained at 10,000-25,000 lux. As the seedlings grow, the light intensity must be increased to 50,000 lux and the temperature controlled.

After germination, the seedlings should be exposed to sunlight as soon as possible to avoid excessive growth and to promote rapid growth of the plants.
