How to grow watermelon seedlings?

Watermelon seedling cultivation is a highly technical job that requires careful care and management. After the seedlings are raised, when to transplant is a key step. Let’s talk about how to raise watermelon seedlings.

1. Choose good seeds

Before raising seedlings, you must first select high-quality watermelon seeds that are suitable for local soil and climatic conditions. It is best to choose seeds that have a short growth period, are cold-resistant, disease-resistant, and of good quality.

2. Prepare the soil for raising seedlings

Watermelon seedlings require loose, moist and fertile soil. You can choose to mix peat, perlite and vermiculite in a ratio of 3:1:1, or you can use fertile and loose rice topsoil.

3. Seed treatment

After selecting the seeds, carry out seed treatment. You can use the warm water soaking method, soak the seeds in warm water at about 45°C for 1-2 hours, and then soak them at room temperature for 24 hours. During this period, you need to change the water 3-4 times. You can also soak the seeds in 10% trisodium phosphate aqueous solution or 50% copper sulfate for 10-15 minutes, and then soak them at room temperature for 24 hours.

4. Planting seeds

After seed treatment is completed, sow the seeds into the seedling soil. Put 1-2 seeds in each nutrient pot, and be careful not to sow too deep, otherwise the seeds will not germinate easily.

5. Seedbed management

After sowing, keep the soil surface loose. Seedbed management includes temperature, humidity, ventilation and light control, as well as disease prevention and control. Temperature control, humidity control and light control of the watermelon seedling bed are the keys to successful seedling cultivation.

6. Transplanting

When the seedlings grow to a certain size, they can be transplanted into the fields. When transplanting, you need to pay attention to factors such as temperature, humidity, and light to ensure the survival rate of the seedlings.

7. Maintenance

Maintenance after transplanting is also very important. Attention should be paid to factors such as water, nutrients, temperature, and light to ensure the growth and development of the watermelon seedlings. The treatment of seedbed medicine and seedling soil is also very important. At the same time, do not buy seeds that have no quality standards, official documents, and quality credit cards.
