When and how to repot cymbidium orchids

Cymbidium orchid repotting time

It is recommended to repot Cymbidium in spring or autumn, when the climate is relatively mild and suitable. Repotting at this time will have less impact on the plant, and repotting will be beneficial to its growth. Be careful to avoid high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter. High temperatures can easily cause infection by pests and diseases, while low temperatures can easily cause frostbite.

Methods and steps for repotting Cymbidium orchids

1. Depotting : It is recommended to cut off water three days before depotting. When depotting, first use a small shovel to draw a circle along the inner wall of the pot, or tap the outer wall of the pot to make the potting soil easier to separate. Then turn the pot upside down, hold the rhizome, and take it out carefully.

2. Prune the roots : After digging out the plant, shake off the soil around the roots to expose most of the plant's roots. Then cut off rotten roots, old roots and excess fibrous roots. Use carbendazim solution to disinfect and sterilize, and finally dry the roots.

3. Prepare the potting soil : Prepare a larger flowerpot with good air permeability. Choose new soil that is soft, fertile and well-drained. You can mix it with bark, charcoal, bricks, etc., and then disinfect the potting soil.

4. Plant in the pot : Place the plant in the middle of the prepared soil, fill the soil after the roots are expanded, compact the soil lightly, spray water appropriately, and finally place it in a cool place.

Care for Cymbidium orchid after repotting

After repotting the Cymbidium, place it in a place with sufficient diffuse light and keep the temperature above 15 degrees. Spray water in time to maintain good humidity. After about a week, the plant will recover and can be watered and maintained normally.
