How to propagate Fragrant wood

The success rate of propagation of Fragrant Wood is high. The propagation method suitable for home flower growers is cutting propagation. Of course, seed propagation is also a problem. The editor will introduce them to you one by one!

Cutting propagation

The cuttings and seedlings of Fragrant wood can be carried out in spring and autumn, and the flowering period is in spring.

During the dormant period, we can choose one-year-old strong branches from mature mother trees, cut them into 12-15cm cuttings, and keep the upper and lower incisions at a certain distance from the young buds (the upper incision is 1~1.5cm away from the young buds; the lower incision is 0.3~0.5cm away from the young buds).

The recommended substrate for cutting propagation is soil with good permeability, medium water holding capacity, and neutral or slightly acidic pH. It is recommended to use permeable river sand or perlite, which has a high success rate.

Seed propagation

It is best to sow the seeds of the fragrant wood in autumn, but it is also possible in spring. According to the editor's recommendation, the success rate of sowing in autumn is even higher than that in spring.

The first is the acquisition and processing of seeds: the maturity period of the fragrant wood seeds is very close to the scattering period. Once mature, they will fall off at the slightest disturbance, making it difficult for us to collect them, or they will be eaten by birds and beasts.

Therefore, when the seeds begin to show signs of maturity, they are immediately collected from the trees and processed.

The seeds of the fragrant wood are wrapped in juicy flesh and are easily contaminated by mold. The fruits need to be piled up for fermentation, and the peels need to be mashed and washed in water. After threshing and discarding the impurities, dry in the shade and store in a ventilated and dry place.

The sowing process of fragrant wood is very simple. Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water with an initial temperature of 20 degrees Celsius for one day (24 hours). After the seeds absorb water and swell, take them out and germinate them in warm and humid conditions. Then you can sow them!
