How to keep flowers bought from the flower market by a novice

I clearly picked the most beautiful flowers from the flower market, but once they arrived at my home, they wilted after just a few days. Then I began to wonder if the merchant was playing tricks. But think about it again, it is impossible that it is the merchants who are playing tricks every time, or there is a problem with the breeding method. Newly bought flowers, because they are in a new environment, are like newborn babies. They must be carefully cared for and taken care of so that they can adapt to the new environment and thrive. Therefore, when you buy newly-purchased flowers, you must pay attention to the following operations to ensure that the flowers safely pass through the adaptation period.

1. Waking up the flowers should be done in place

Before purchasing flowers, they are mostly grown in greenhouses, where the temperature and humidity are very different from those in the home environment. At this time, flowers are prone to problems, and the problems may not have appeared yet when they were just purchased. But after returning home and leaving it for a while, the problem began to show up. Therefore, you need to wake up the flowers, water them thoroughly, and place them in a place where they are not exposed to direct sunlight, such as in a corner. After about four days, if the leaves do not visibly wither, it means the flower has adapted to the home environment and can be repotted.

2. Be careful when changing pots

Most flower markets sell flowers and pots separately, and most of the materials used are river sand or loose mud, which has no nutrients and poor water retention, and may also carry diseases and pests. This is a sales tactic used by merchants, and it also creates a certain burden and trouble for novices. The flowers you buy mostly come in plastic pots, which need to be repotted, creating new obstacles for novices in keeping a pot of flowers alive. Repotting is not only a test for novices, but also a test of life and death for the growth of flowers.

When repotting, choose a slightly larger pot and place a potting stone or refining stone on the bottom of the pot. Then choose the corresponding soil according to the properties of the flowers and add some base fertilizer to the soil. Put half the soil in the pot, gently pull out the plant and put it into the big pot. After straightening it, add soil to 2-3 cm away from the edge of the pot and press it tightly. Finally, water it thoroughly until water starts to flow out from the bottom of the pot. After two days, you can start normal maintenance.

3. Pruning should be timely

The flowers that have just been bought are basically in bloom. They look very bright and beautiful, but they also consume a lot of nutrients. If you want the flowers to always stay in good condition, you still need to prune them in time so that the nutrients can be evenly absorbed. The specific pruning method should take into account the characteristics of different plants. The basic pruning principle is that when the flowers begin to wither, cut them off at the stem three leaves below. This pruning method is suitable for most flowers. In addition, the flowers you buy may have some diseased branches, which can also be pruned.

4. Fertilization should be scientific

The newly bought flowers have gone through many tests and finally you can start maintenance work such as watering and fertilizing them. We cannot be complacent about this, as other problems may arise. Not to mention the extreme situation where novices may pay too much attention to flowers and keep watering them, which may kill the plants. Fertilization is also an extremely particular matter. It must be based on the characteristics of the flowers and then scientifically fertilize different plants. Generally speaking, it is sufficient to apply fertilizer once every half a month.
