Cultivation and pruning of desert rose

Cultivation and pruning of desert rose

Desert rose , as an ornamental plant that is easy to maintain and can bloom all year round, is loved by many flower lovers. Not only is it affordable, but it also blooms beautifully if properly cared for. However, many flower lovers find that the flowers of their desert roses are sparse and not lush enough, which is usually due to the lack of correct pruning and maintenance techniques. Let’s learn how to grow and prune Desert Rose.

1. Pruning techniques

Initial maintenance: Let the newly purchased Desert Rose seedlings adapt to the environment first, and then prune them after their growth stabilizes.

When to prune: Choose a time when the trunk is firm and the weather is clear, keep 3-5 cm of pruning branches upward from the last sprout, and apply a healing agent to prevent infection.

Promote branching: Through pruning, the growth of side branches is stimulated, making the plant fuller and creating conditions for more flowers.

2. Maintenance "three elements"

Light: Desert rose needs sufficient sunlight for photosynthesis, which promotes the development of root system and the growth of new shoots.

Fertilization: Use high-nitrogen fertilizer to promote the growth of lateral buds. When the crown is large enough, switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote flower bud differentiation.

Watering: Although Desert Rose is drought-tolerant, it needs adequate water after pruning to support the rapid growth of new shoots and roots.

3. Specific operations

Pruning: During the growing season, when the temperature is not lower than 20 degrees, keep 3-5 cm after each pruning to promote the growth of side branches.

Light: Ensure full-sun maintenance to prevent new shoots from becoming thin or turning black.

Fertilization: Use fertilizers with high nitrogen content, such as Huaduoduo No. 10, in the early stage to promote growth; use potassium dihydrogen phosphate in the later stage to promote flowering.

Watering: Under the premise of good ventilation, water the potting soil thoroughly when it is half dry to keep the soil breathable and avoid root rot.

The above are the cultivation and pruning methods of Desert Rose. As long as you do these tasks well, the Desert Rose can grow rapidly, with lush side buds, and eventually reach the effect of overflowing the pot.
