How to grow cactus in autumn

How to grow cactus in autumn

1. Suitable temperature

Generally speaking, cacti are suitable for growing in a higher temperature environment, preferably between twenty and thirty degrees. The early part of autumn can generally meet the requirements. However, in late autumn, the problem of dormancy due to low temperatures needs to be considered. The specific temperature to be maintained depends on the type. If it is a terrestrial type, four to seven degrees is more suitable. If it is an epiphytic type, the temperature needs to be higher, preferably between ten and thirteen degrees.

2. Adequate lighting

Generally speaking, cacti prefer light, and strong light will not cause harm. Therefore, you can generally get more sun in the fall and there is no need for shade at noon. However, you still have to consider the type of cactus. If it is an epiphytic type, then semi-shade conditions are better.

3. Appropriate amount of fertilizer

In autumn, fertilization can be done once every twenty days. Fertilization is best done in the morning or evening on sunny days. If the soil is very dry, you can drip some water before applying fertilizer. After fertilizing, water thoroughly the next day. It is best to use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers for terrestrial types, while nitrogen fertilizers are mostly used for epiphytic types.

4. Appropriate amount of water

It doesn't need much water in autumn. Just wait until the soil is dry before watering it, and water it thoroughly each time. The time interval between watering should not be too short.

5. Proper ventilation

If you keep it indoors, you should also pay attention to ventilation in autumn to provide it with fresh and good air.
