How dandelion seeds spread

1. How dandelion seeds spread

Dandelion seeds are dispersed by the wind. It usually produces small yellow flowers that are pollinated by insects to form seeds. After all its golden petals have fallen off, white pompoms will grow on the receptacle, and the seeds are fully mature. If a gust of wind blows at this time, its seeds will be blown to any place with the wind. If it happens to be blown to a place suitable for its growth, its seeds will germinate in the spring of the following year, and the next life cycle will begin.

2. How to sow dandelion seeds

Temperature: Mature dandelion seeds generally have no dormancy period and can be sown as long as the outside temperature reaches about 15 degrees.

Collecting seeds: To collect dandelion seeds, you can harvest them when the outer shell of the flower disk turns yellow-green and the seeds turn brown.

Sowing: Plant dandelion seeds in a pot, and then cover them with a layer of soil about 0.3 to 0.5 cm thick. Be sure to wet the soil with water before and after sowing. If sowing in May, it is best to cover it with a layer of plastic film, but if sowing in July and August, it is not necessary.

Germination time: If the seeds are collected at the end of May and sown immediately, it usually takes only ten to twenty days for the seeds to germinate. If the seeds are sown in July or August in summer, it usually takes about fifteen days for the seedlings to emerge.

Fertilizer and water management: Dandelions prefer loose, fertile soil rich in organic matter, so after sowing, you must pay attention to keeping the soil moist, and apply appropriate fertilizer once or twice during its growing period.
