How to cultivate Taiwan Podocarpus

How to cultivate Taiwan Podocarpus

1. Soil

Taiwan Podocarpus grows in loose, fertile and well-drained slightly acidic soil. When breeding, you can use garden soil or leaf mold, add some river sand and base fertilizer to prepare its soil.

2. Lighting

It is a semi-sun plant and grows well in a semi-shady environment, but requires proper light during the growing period. Therefore, after raising it indoors for a period of time, you can move it out and place it in the courtyard or on the balcony so that it can recover as soon as possible.

3. Temperature

It likes warmth and has poor cold tolerance. In summer, spring and autumn, the temperature should be kept between 17 and 25 degrees Celsius. During the high temperatures in summer, the temperature needs to be lowered appropriately to prevent water evaporation and wilting. The temperature should not be lower than 10℃ in winter to avoid frost damage.

4. Watering

It likes a shady and humid environment and needs to be watered frequently during the growing period, but water cannot accumulate. If water accumulates for a long time, it will develop black roots, yellow leaves, and even cause a large number of leaves to fall off, and the plant will die. In summer, you can water it once every morning or evening. In spring and autumn, you can water it every 2-4 days. In winter, you should reduce the amount of watering and water it once every 7 days.

5. Fertilization

It likes fertilizer, but not concentrated fertilizer. During the growing season, you can use decomposed organic liquid fertilizer and apply top dressing once every ten days to half a month. Water it once the next day after fertilizing to facilitate its absorption. Apply thin liquid fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen fertilizer 2-3 times in spring and autumn, so that it will grow better.
