How to cultivate American pokeweed

How to cultivate American pokeweed

1. Soil

American pokeweed has low soil requirements and is very resilient. You can use ordinary garden soil for planting. When planting in pots, you can use some common planting soil and nutrient soil.

2. Temperature

It likes a warm environment and its best growth temperature is between 14 and 30 degrees Celsius. Daily low temperatures will cause it to grow slowly and even cause yellowing leaves. In autumn, it will naturally shed its leaves to retain its roots for the winter. It can survive the winter normally at temperatures above -15 degrees Celsius.

3. Watering

When watering, water thoroughly; it is relatively drought-tolerant. Its rhizomes are good at retaining water and consolidating soil, and its water retention capacity is very strong no matter what type of soil it is. Do not water too frequently as this will cause waterlogging and root rot.

4. Lighting

Giving it a certain amount of sunlight will allow it to grow normally, and it can be planted on the balcony at home. When growing it in the garden, do not plant it in the shade. It has strong adaptability and just needs to be given a certain lighting environment.

5. Notes

1. Fertilization: Using some phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer is more conducive to its growth and development. Fertilization can be applied once more in early autumn, which is conducive to safe wintering and growth and development in the coming year.

2. Pests and diseases: Pokeweed is most susceptible to root rot. You can spray some Bordeaux liquid for prevention and control during the growing season. Once the disease occurs, its branches and leaves will wilt, and it must be treated immediately with fungicides.
