Bowl lotus and water lily

The lotus flowers we grow at home now are mainly bowl lotus and water lily. They are of suitable size and do not take up much space. Among them, the bowl lotus is very similar to the common lotus, but it is a little smaller and can be planted directly in a basin of water. Some flower lovers even grow it directly in foam boxes and bowls!

Water lilies are a bit special. Their leaves have a notch and they often float on the water surface. The flowers bloom in more colors, including the common red and white, yellow, orange, and blue-purple. It is best to grow water lilies in a larger water tank or foam box, so that they will look beautiful when the whole pot is full of flowers!

Lotus cultivation steps

Growing lotus is actually easier than growing flowers. As long as there is sunlight at home, you can grow flowers. Now follow Huahua and try how to grow it. You will definitely learn it once you learn it!

1. Cut the seeds and soak them in water for 3-5 days

The shell of lotus seeds is very thick. Use a knife or scissors to cut off the pointed end of the shell so that it will germinate faster. It will sprout after soaking in clean water for 3-5 days. Huahua would also like to remind everyone that the lotus seeds used as seeds must be old lotus seeds. When purchasing, be careful not to buy lotus seeds that have become vegetable lotus seeds, otherwise they will not bloom when planted.

2. Change the water every 1-2 days and wait for the buds to grow small leaves.

After the lotus seeds sprout, they can be placed in the sun and the water should be changed every 1-2 days. Note that tap water must be left for 1 day before use, otherwise too much chlorine will affect growth. In about 1-2 weeks, small leaves will grow and roots will emerge, and then you can plant them.

3. Planting

The best soil for growing lotus is paddy field soil or ordinary original soil. First sift it to remove large particles, then water it 1-3 times with boiling water to sterilize it. Don't use too much, just enough to cover the seeds and roots (it's okay to leave a little water). It is best to plant one plant per pot so that it will bloom more smoothly.

4. Maintenance

Lotuses are not afraid of the sun. Just put them in a sunny place at home. The more sun they are exposed to, the faster they grow. Pay attention to adding water. It is best to keep it full. Do not use polluted fish pond water or the like. It is better to use tap water that has been dried in the sun. You can add some nutrient solution and compound fertilizer at ordinary times, and you can also spray some potassium dihydrogen phosphate before flowering to promote flowering.

Lotus cultivation issues

1. Yellow leaves, burnt leaves

If the leaves of the lotus you grow turn yellow and rot, it may be because there is not enough water, the water has not been changed for a long time, the water quality is poor, too much fertilizer has been added and burned, or there are too many plants in the pot and they are crowded. If you find any problems, you can compare and see what the reason is.

When yellow, burnt, or rotten leaves appear, change the water first. It is best to use tap water that has been air-dried for 1-2 days. Remove the necrotic stems and leaves and let them grow again. After new leaves grow out, you can add some nutrient solution.

2. No flowering

Some flower lovers complain that the plants bloom slowly or only grow leaves without blooming. It is very likely that you bought lotus seedlings from Suqian. If the seeds are real, then it will be easy to deal with.

First of all, you need to see if there is enough light. It must be placed in a sunny and ventilated place, and water should be added in time to keep the water full. If you want to promote flowering, you can add some compound fertilizer or potassium dihydrogen phosphate every week.

3. Insect problem

In the summer, as long as there is stagnant water, it is easy for insects to breed. In fact, from sterilizing the soil at the beginning to changing and adding water in time, keeping these clean and hygienic can reduce the probability of insects. Also, ventilation is necessary. Without ventilation, it is difficult to grow any flowers.

If the container you use to grow lotus is big enough, you can raise a few hardy small fish. A 1-2 cm fish needs 1 liter of water for activity. You can do the math and find out how many you can keep in a pot.
