What to do after the hyacinth flowering period

What to do after the hyacinth flowering period

1. Pruning

After the flowers fade, the branches and leaves gradually turn yellow as the temperature rises, and the dormant period begins. Cut off the flower stems and leaves of plants that have entered a dormant period. For plants grown using the hydroponics method, the roots should be cut off together with the roots. For plants grown using the soil method, only the flowers and leaves on the upper part need to be cut off.

2. Low temperature storage

Take out the processed bulbs before the high temperature in summer, dry them in a cool place, wrap the bulbs with newspapers after drying, and place them in the refrigerator's cold layer at around 4-5℃. Be careful not to let the temperature drop below 0℃.

3. Replanting

When the weather gradually turns cold in November, take out the preserved bulbs and replant them in the soil or water. For soil cultivation, just bury the bulbs in the soil with the root tips exposed, place them in a cool place for about a week, and then maintain them normally. For hydroponics, place the plant on the top of the bottle 1 cm above the water surface, and then place it in a cool place to encourage rooting.

4. Notes

The second-year hyacinth plants may shrink to a certain extent because the bulbs have degenerated. Generally, the bulbs can bloom in three years, but it is difficult to bloom in the fourth year. If lush flower branches are needed, it is recommended to purchase new bulbs directly in the second year.
