The difference between azalea and rhododendron

The difference between azalea and rhododendron

1. Origin

The Western rhododendron has a special name, which is related to its place of origin, called Belgian rhododendron. This also explains its most critical source. Generally speaking, we can easily buy Western rhododendron in the north, while common rhododendron in the south.

2. Appearance

We should know that the former is relatively short, its height is equivalent to the height of an adult, between one and two meters, and the branches are relatively scattered. The common rhododendron is different. Although it is also very short, it is relatively lush and full.

3. Leaves

The leaves are quite different, with the former having a thicker leaf and a richer color. The leaves of the latter are relatively thin and not dark in color. In addition, the number of hairs on the former can almost be counted and it is relatively darker, while the latter also has less hair but the luster is very obvious. In addition to this, the former has more leaf shapes, including smooth leaves and long leaves, and it also has twisted leaves, while the latter is relatively simple.

4. Flowers

The former blooms in April and May and has double petals. The latter has very small flowers and blooms in April. Its flowers are numerous and dense. Generally speaking, it is composed of single petals or tubular petals. There are double petals but in very few numbers.

5. Reproduction and cultivation

Because the former is more delicate, the only method of reproduction we provide for it is grafting, and the ordinary method we usually take is cuttings.
