Mallow cultivation methods and precautions

How to grow mallow

soil

Mallow does not have high requirements for soil. You can choose sandy soil, or slightly acidic nutrient soil or leaf mold. After planting the mallow in a pot, you need to place the mallow pot in a sunny place for half a day to promote its flowering.

Light and temperature

Mallow likes a sunny environment, but prefers a cooler environment and can tolerate cold. For growing mallow, the suitable growth temperature is between 18℃ and 25℃, and sufficient sunlight is guaranteed. In the cold winter, the mallow potted plants need to be placed in a warm place with plenty of sunlight indoors, and the temperature should be kept at 3℃-5℃.

Watering and fertilizing

In terms of water and fertilizer, when watering, you should pay attention to keeping the plant on the dry side and away from wetness to prevent root rot, especially in cold winter and hot summer. Since mallow has many flowers and requires more nutrients, some nitrogen and phosphorus compound fertilizers can be applied during the growth period of mallow. During the flowering period, fertilizers mainly composed of phosphorus fertilizers need to be applied to promote flowering.

Reproduction method

The propagation of mallow is generally done by cuttings and layering. For cuttings, you can choose strong branches, which will take root in about a month. There are two main types of layering: high pressure layering and ordinary layering.

Mallow cultivation precautions

prune

During the growth process of mallow, it needs to be pruned frequently to cut off the dead branches, diseased branches, weak branches, dense branches and residual flowers. This is conducive to ventilation and light transmission, and promotes more branching and flowering of mallow.

Pests and diseases and their control

Mallow may develop some diseases during the maintenance process, mainly sooty mold disease. It can be treated by spraying with pesticides, and attention should be paid to ventilation to avoid the occurrence of diseases. Mallow sometimes encounters pests during maintenance, mainly aphids and scale insects. When these pests occur in mallow, you can spray 2000 times diluted 10% omethoate for prevention and control.
