How to remedy the problem of succulents losing leaves when touched?

Many succulent lovers may encounter the situation where the leaves fall off when touched during the process of caring for succulents, and they don’t know how to deal with this situation. In fact, once you figure out the cause, it's easy to solve. Let’s take a closer look at it below.

1. Normal metabolism

Succulents usually replace their leaves during the growing season, which is a normal growth process. If only a few old leaves are falling and new leaves are growing normally, then there is usually no need to worry.

2. Insufficient light

Succulent plants need sufficient light for photosynthesis. Insufficient light will cause the plants to grow too tall, the leaves to become thinner, and they will easily fall off. Therefore, succulents should be placed in a well-lit location in time to ensure that they can receive an appropriate amount of direct sunlight every day.

3. Causes of root rot

If succulents fall off when touched, it is most likely caused by root rot. At this time, you can pull the succulents out of the pot to see if there is any problem with the root system. If there is a problem, use a sterilized knife to cut off the rotten roots, then apply some carbendazim powder on the wound, let the wound dry and then put it back in the pot.

4. Too much watering

If you water too much, the water content of the succulent leaves will become too high, and the leaves will fall off at the touch of a button. Therefore, when watering succulents, you must control the amount of water. Generally, you should water them when the soil is dry and wet when the soil is wet. It is best to maintain a constant degree of dryness and wetness.

5. Temperature discomfort

Temperatures that are too high or too low will cause succulents to grow poorly, and their leaves will easily fall off at the slightest touch. Therefore, it is important to control the temperature. Usually the suitable temperature for succulents is 15-28℃. When the temperature is low in winter, they should be moved indoors in time to keep warm. When the temperature is high in summer, shade and ventilation should be provided in time.

6. Lack of fertilizer

If succulents do not get enough nutrients for a long time, the leaves may turn yellow, dry up, and eventually fall off. You can apply fertilizer suitable for succulents in moderation during the growing season, but be careful not to overdo it.

7. Black rot

Usually, when succulent plants fall leaves due to black rot, we need to throw away the black rot leaves. At the beginning, cut off the black rot area with a sterilized knife, and then dry the wound in a well-ventilated place with scattered light before putting it in the pot.

In general, when dealing with the situation where succulent leaves fall off at the slightest touch, you must pay attention to the growth of the plant to see if there are any problems such as root rot or improper water and fertilizer. Then adjust the maintenance method according to the specific situation, and it is basically easy to remedy the problem.
