Does aloe vera bloom?

Is it blooming?

Aloe vera can bloom, but it is very rare and will only bloom under suitable conditions of warmth, humidity and light.

Aloe vera flowering also depends on the species. Some species will never bloom until they die. Aloe vera, which generally grows in tropical areas, blooms around May. The height of the flower branches is 30~40 cm, and occasionally exceeds 1 meter. However, aloe vera grown in temperate zones is often difficult to bloom, the flowering time is uncertain, and the flower branches are short and the flowers are small.

Are the flowers poisonous?

When people see fresh, bright and colorful plants protecting themselves, they tend to be skeptical. For example, if aloe vera blooms bright flowers, does that mean it is poisonous?

The answer is of course no. Aloe vera itself is a non-toxic plant. Even if it blooms, it is not poisonous. It will not sprout like potatoes and grow toxic substances.

What does flowering represent?

Some people say that it is rare for aloe vera to bloom, and blooming aloe vera means good luck; others say that aloe vera that has been cultivated for more than three years will bloom, and this is a natural phenomenon and nothing special; others say that blooming aloe vera means aging, and if aloe vera blooms, it means it is about to die! But the editor wants to say that what the aloe vera flowering represents depends on what you think. If you believe it, it means it; if you don’t believe it, it means it doesn’t.

However, the editor prefers to believe this statement: Aloe vera flowering is a good omen, representing people’s best wishes. An ancient poem once said: "Shallow roses frequently appear, and pure aloe vera is cautious about blooming", so the flower language of aloe vera is "Keep oneself clean and undisturbed."

How to grow it to bloom

Conditions for flowering

Choose a good variety: Usually, arborescent aloe blooms in 3 to 4 years, aloe vera in 3 years, and saponin aloe in about 1 year. These three are the varieties that have a higher chance of flowering at present.

Sunlight: During the growth process of aloe vera, there must be good sunlight, especially in summer. Sufficient sunlight can make aloe vera grow quickly. It is only possible to bloom when the stem is more than 2.2 cm thick and the plant height is more than 40 cm.

Fertilization: Flowering requires sufficient nutrient support, fertilize at the right time, and appropriately supplement phosphorus fertilizer.

How to bloom early

Take arborescent aloe as an example: in early September, cut the aloe that has been cultivated for two years from the bottom of the center of the stem, leaving 5 to 7 leaves on the top, and retain a certain growth point in the cut part. Place it in a cool place to dry, then insert it into the soil. It will take 40 to 50 days to take root. Gently pull it with your hand. If it cannot be pulled out, it means it has taken root.

Note that you cannot water the plant before the cuttings take root. If you maintain it normally after rooting, 50 to 60 small flowers will bloom in the autumn of the second year.
