Container selectionThere are many choices of growing containers for air plants. Simply put, it will grow whatever you give it. But flower lovers often use shells, stones, dead wood, fern boards, rattan baskets, etc. for beauty. Fixed methodThe root system of air plants is not a tool for transporting nutrients but plays a role of fixation, but it needs auxiliary fixation in the early stage of planting. You can choose to tie it with wire or rope, or stick it to the container with glue or hot melt glue. Or it can be cultivated in a hanging way, tying it with copper wire ropes and hanging it in the air. Temperature requirementsAir plants can withstand temperatures as low as 0℃ and as high as 40℃. Most varieties will be frozen if the temperature is below 5℃, and the plants will die if the temperature is below 0℃. The most suitable temperature for growth is 15~30℃. When the temperature is higher than 25℃, ventilation should be strengthened and the air humidity should be increased. Pay attention to spraying water to humidify and cool down in summer. Water spraying requirementsTo water the air plants, use a spray bottle to spray them 2-3 times a week. When the weather is dry, you can spray them once a day. When spraying water, just spray until the leaf surface is completely wet, but be careful not to let water accumulate in the center of the leaves. If you spray too much water, you can turn the plant upside down to let the excess water flow out. (Whether the watering method of air plants is easier than that of other plants, you will know after comparison. Take a look at the detailed ☞Watering method of air plants☜ ) Lighting requirementsVarieties of air plants with grayer leaves, more white scales, and thicker and harder ones require stronger light; while varieties with greener leaves, fewer scales, and softer ones are more shade-tolerant. During maintenance, appropriate light can be provided according to the variety. The simplest method is to place the plant in a bright place indoors. If it grows weak, just add light in time. Fertilization requirementsThe simplest method is to immerse the plants in 3000-5000 times fertilizer solution for 1-2 hours, then take them out, once a week. Stop fertilizing in winter. PrecautionsI would like to remind everyone not to put air plants in a tank. Air plants need a lot of air circulation and will go bad if they are kept in a stuffy tank. If the air is too dry, you can soak the plant in water for an hour and then shake off the water on the leaves. Be careful not to expose the leaves to the sun when there is water on them. Normally the temperature in winter should be controlled above 5℃. Generally, the temperature in a home in winter is around 20℃, which is just right. However, when maintaining it indoors, do not place it next to air conditioning or heater, and do not let cold wind blow directly. |
