The Flower Language of Daylily

The flower language of daylily is hidden love, relieving sorrow and forgetting worries. In China, the meaning of daylily is the same as that of carnation today, both are flowers for mothers.

Plant Culture of Daylily

As mentioned above, it is also known as forget-me-not. There is a story in the "Book of Songs" about a woman who got married but her husband went on a long expedition. The woman planted daylilies at home to forget her worries and relieve her longing for her husband, so it was called "forget-me-not" by people.

There is also a story about day lily in ancient times. Legend has it that before Chen Sheng started the uprising, he was poor and his body was swollen due to hunger. One day, he went to a family named Huang to beg for food. His mother-in-law gave him three bowls of day lily. Chen Sheng found it very sweet, better than any other delicacy, and his edema was cured soon after. Later, when Chen Sheng became king, he invited the Huang mother and daughter to the palace. The mother-in-law brought him some day lilies to eat, but Chen Sheng felt that they were no longer so delicious. The mother-in-law told Chen Sheng that it was because he had eaten too much fine wine and delicious food that he naturally found wild vegetables unpalatable. Chen Sheng felt very ashamed after hearing this. Later, the mother and daughter stayed in the palace to grow day lilies. After a doctor discovered its value, it became a traditional Chinese medicine.

In ancient times, daylily was often quoted by poets and has high literary value. For example, Su Dongpo, Gao Qi, Su Zhe and others have all written "Daylily". Daylilies also appear in many other poems.
